It's Bike Bash time at Haldon
If you love your bike why not take it along to Haldon Forest Park on the Forestry Commission estate near Exeter for the annual Bike Bash on Sunday 14 June at 10.30am. The event, which is organised by the Forestry Commission and Sidwell Cycles is a must for anyone who enjoys their bikes. There are a range of activities happening throughout the day including a cycle circus, races and competitions, a mountain bike skills display, a 'have a go' mountain bike skills course and a chance to test ride the latest bikes. Sidwell Cycles will also be providing a 'Bike Doctor' on the day and Simply the Bike will be putting on bike workshops. There is no entry charge for the event, which will finish at 4.30pm and everyone is welcome. Forestry Commission ranger and event organiser Gemma Ingall says: "Haldon Forest Park is a great venue for the Bike Bash that will be a really fun day out for the whole family. We have so much going on during the event and its not just aimed at experienced cyclists. There will be plenty to offer beginners, families and those who just like to ride for fun. We would encourage as many people as possible to come along and enjoy the day." As well as the Bike Bash there is a range of walking and cycling trails at the forest as well as picnic areas and play areas for children. Go Ape and Forest Cycle Hire will also be open on the day. You could also pop in to the Centre for Contemporary Art & the Natural World (CCANW), which is holding an Ecopoetics exhibition called Skylines until Sunday 28 June. Ecopoetics is the study of the ways that creative writing can address ecological issues and entry in free. In addition The Ridge Cafe will be open all day serving a delicious menu of food and drinks. Entry to the event is free although parking charges will apply - £1.50 for the whole day. The Bike Bash is taking place during National Bike Week (13-21 June).
